Jas. Coon was born in Columbus county, Ohio, February 21, 1811, and departed this life January 23, 1897, aged 85 years, 11 months, 2 days. Deceased was married in Wisconsin, in 1856 to Ina (sic) Blake, from which union were born seven daughters and two sons, all except one girl living to mourn the loss of a father. Mr. Coon moved to Iowa in 1876 where he has made his home until his death. Funeral services at the home of his son, Rease Coon, living south of Correctionville, conducted by Geo. N. Thompson. END
The Correctionville NewsObituaryNina Blake was born Nov. 9, 1828, in Virginia, and died at her home in Correctionville, September 1, 1915, at the age of 86 years, 10 months and 20 days. In 1856 she was united in marriage to James Coon, who preceeded her to the grave January 21, 1897.To them were born nine children, two sons and seven daughters. They are: Reese and George Coon, Mrs. Thomas Clark, Mrs. John Kenyon, Mrs. Alice Wright, Mrs. Sarah Patterson, all of Correctionville; Mrs John Clark of Sturgis, Canada, Mrs. Mary Garrett of Sioux City, and Mrs. Emma Conklin who preceeded her mother to the great beyond. When a young woman she joined the United Brethren church.She was a kind and loving mother and friend, and besides her children, leaves to mourn her loss a large host of relatives and friends.The funeral was held Friday, Sept 3d, services being held on the lawn at the home of the departed. The remains were laid to rest in the Correctionville cemetery, the services being in charge of Rev. J. A. Campbell, pastor of the United Evangelical church. END

Hattie M. Kenyon was born August 2, 1872, to James and Nina Coon at Spring Green, WI. At the age of 4 she came with her parents, brothers and sisters in a covered wagon to a farm near Correctionville where she grew to young womanhood. On December 31, 1891, she was married to John H. Kenyon in Ida Grove. To this union one daughter, Grace, was born. After farming near Correctionville for 5 years, they moved to Cedar Rapids where they farmed for 15 years. Mr. and Mrs. Kenyon returned to Correctionville and farmed 5 miles southeast of town until they retired in May 1938 and moved into Correctionville. Mrs. Kenyon was baptized in the Correctionville Church of Christ. Mr. Kenyon passed away March 22, 1951, and in 1953, Mrs. Kenyon moved to Winterset with her daughter and granddaughter, Mrs. Grace Lafferty and Margie. She passed away at her home Thursday, May 3, at the age of 89 years and 9 months, after years of failing health. She was the last member of her family of nine. Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Grace Lafferty of Winterset, 2 granddaughters, Mrs. Geneva Houghman of Earlham and Margie Lafferty of Winterset, 2 great grandsons, Norman Hougham of Des Moines and Larry Hougham stationed with the Navy at Beeville, TX, several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Sunday, May 6, 1962, at the Wilson-Hull Funeral Home. Louis Ferguson, minister of the Church of Christ, officiated. Pallbearers were Glen Camarigg, Ray Clark, LeRoy Clark, Kenneth Heath, Ernest Brauninger and Frank Groth. Burial was in the Correctionville Cemetery under direction of the Wilson-Hull Funeral Home
